| An Analysis of Symbolism in The Scarlet Letter
摘 要
作为19世纪美国著名小说家霍桑的代表作，《红字》中大量的运用了象征的写作手法。其中红色字母“A”作为主线贯穿于全书。其次人物以及场景的象征意义也是十分典型的例子。本文将从这些方面探讨象征这种写作手法的复杂性，多义性和任意性。

Abstract
As the representative work of Hawthorne,a famous American novelist in the 19th century, The Scarlet Letter employs many symbolic writing techniques. The scarlet letter "A" is the main line throughout the book.Then, the symbolic meanings of characters and scenes are also typical examples.This paper will discuss the complexity,polysemy and arbitrariness of the symbolic writing technique from these aspects.
