| 解读小说《彩色的面纱》中面纱的象征意义 摘 要 威廉 萨摩萨特 毛姆是英国20世纪现实主义文学的重要代表，著名小说家。小说《彩色的面纱》作为毛姆剖析人性的三大作品之一自1925年出版之后就受到读者的热烈欢迎。整个作品中没有出现面纱这一具象但却以此为题，毛姆赋予了面纱丰富的象征意义。本文以文献分析和文本研究为基础，探析小说《面纱》的“面纱”的象征意义：在爱情中面纱象征欲望，友情中象征觉醒以及在亲情中象征救赎。 随着这故事情节的发展，这一层层面纱下的东西逐渐暴露，揭开面纱的过程就是女主凯蒂蜕变，成长和救赎的过程，就是女主放下束缚，独立自由的过程，最终重获新生，成为自己，找到生命的意义。 本文共分为4个部分。第一部分是绪论，其中包括对毛姆和小说面纱的一个基本介绍还有国内外研究综述。第二部分是介绍象征主义和面纱中所体现的象征主义。第三部分是面纱的象征意义分析:在爱情中象征欲望，友情中象征觉醒以及亲情中象征救赎。第四部分是结论。 关键词：象征意义；面纱；解读 Abstract Maugham is an important representative of British realism literature in the 20th century and a famous novelist. The Painted Veil, as one of the three major works of Maugham's analysis ofhuman nature, has been popular with readers since it was published in 1925. There is no concrete image of the veil in the whole work,but with this as the title, Maugham gives the veil a rich symbolic meaning. Based on document analysis and text research,this paper explores the symbolic meaning of the "veil" in the novel The painted Veil: the veil symbolizes desire in love, awakening in friendship, and salvation in family affection. With the development of this storyline, things under this layer of veil are gradually exposed.The process of lifting the veil is the process of theheroine Katie's transformation, growth and redemption. It is the process of the heroine letting go of her shackles and becoming independent and free.Finally she gets a new life, becomes herself and finds the meaning of life. This article is divided into 4 parts.The first part is the introduction,which includes a basic introduction to Maugham and novel The Painted Veil as well as a literature review. The second part is symbolism and the symbolism embodied in the veil.The third part is the analysis of the symbolic meaning of the veil: it symbolizes desire in love, awakening in friendship, and salvation in family. The fourth part is the conclusion.
