| A Study of Communication Model in the Dogs of Babel Abstract The Dogs of Babel is a full-length novel written by an American female writer Parkhurst Carolyn. As soon as the book was published, it became a best-seller and overwhelmed another popular book Kite Runner. A movie adaption was in development as of 2011. Taking symbolic language as dividing line, "the Tower of Babel" which refers to verbal communication difficulties, the meaning of Babel in the Bible is communication, especially the speech communication model, but communication model consists of two types: verbal communication and non-verbal communication. The study of verbal communication model focuses on the communication between different individuals and explores the development of different relationships by means of language, which includes communication between human beings, or even between humans and dogs. The study of non-verbal communication models focuses on something unrelated to language, such as Lexy’s dream, Lexy's book list, the physical contact between Lexy and Paul, and the deep excavation of their hearts. Simple language communication sometimes fails to achieve the effect of interpersonal interaction that we need. The tragedy of linguist Paul confirms this. Both verbal and nonverbal communication models have positive side or negative side, and their positive side make communication more effective, but the negative side may lead to tragedies. Key words: The Dogs of Babel；Parkhurst Carolyn；Communication Model 论《巴别塔之犬》中的沟通模式 摘 要 《巴别塔之犬》是美国女作家卡罗琳·帕克丝特创作的长篇小说,这篇小说的问世，给当时的文学领域掀起一阵风雨，一时间，席卷了整个西方世界，甚至其作者还出现在《时代人物》的文章中。并在2011年被改编成电影。以象征语言分野、表达沟通困境的“巴别塔”作为基调，巴别塔在圣经中的含义即沟通，特别强调了言语沟通模式，沟通模式包括言语沟通模式和非言语沟通模式两种。言语沟通模式的研究从不同个体与不同个体之间的交流出发，用语言去探究不同关系的发展，包括人与人，甚至人与狗之间的言语沟通。而非言语沟通模式的研究则从一些无关语言的内容着手，例如露西的梦境，露西的书单，露西与保罗之间的身体接触以及内心深处的挖掘。单纯的语言交流有时候是无法达到我们需要的人际交往的效果的，语言学家保罗的悲剧正是印证了这一点。不管是言语沟通模式还是非言语沟通模式都会有优点或者是局限性，优点会让沟通更为有效，而局限性则会导致一些悲剧的发生。 关键词：《巴别塔之犬》；卡罗琳·帕克丝特；沟通模式 Contents 1.
