| An Analysis of Violation of Cooperative Principle in Oprah’s Talk Show Abstract Oprah Winfrey is the Talk Show queen in United States, her Talk Show "Oprah’s Talk Show" is the most successful Talk Show in American history, and her language ability has been approved by many researchers at home and abroad. This paper will study Oprah’s language features and techniques combined with the violation of Grice’s Cooperative Principle from aspects of the maxim of quantity, the maxim of quality, the maxim of relation and the maxim of manner with the interview of Michael Jackson, President Barack Obama and J.K. Rowling. Through the study of Oprah’s Talk Show in violation of the cooperative principle, it will not only help us how to break the embarrassing situation into a favorable situation when we communicate, but also create a new language charm, add color to our conversation, and make our communication more harmonious. What’s more, it will give educators experience and skills about how to make our class more lively and efficient in the limited class time. Furthermore, the study of Oprah’s Talk Show in violation of the cooperative principle is very beneficial to our negotiation.
