摘要：《了不起的盖茨比》是美国著名作家菲茨杰拉德创作一部中篇小说。通过讲述美国20世纪 20 年代的美国人对美国梦的追求历史,小说真实反映了美国社会中的社会状况和价值观念。文章从小说的写作背景以及小说中盖茨比的情感经历、生活经历以及小说中主要人物的性格特点等角度对理想主义和现实生活之间的冲突进行分析，并深入探讨美国梦的破灭方式及原因。

论文分为四部分。第一章和第二章简介小说的写作背景及作者的背景信息并在文学评论中简述一些学者对此的研究。第三章详细分析小说中美国梦的追求者等。第四章在第三章基础上探索美国梦幻灭的主题。最后一章总结全文。

The Disillusionment of the American Dream of The Great Gatsby

Abstract: The Great Gatsby is a novel written by American writer Fitzgerald with the background of New York City and Long Island City in the 1920s. The pursuit of the American dream is also a true reflection of the values and social conditions in American society. The article analyzes the conflict between idealism and real life from the perspectives of the writing background of the novel, Gatsby’s emotional experience,life experience, and characteristics of the main characters in the novel,and in-depth discussion of the disillusionment of the American dream and the reason.

This paper is divided into five parts.In the first and second chapter,the background of the novel and the novelist are briefly introduced, and contrast some scholars’ research in literature review. In the third part, the American dream pursuers are deeply analyzed.The fourth chapter explores the theme of the disillusionment of the American dream based on the third part. And the final part is conclusion.
