| An Analysis of Cultural Shocks Between Chinese and Western Cultures―A Case of Study of American Drama Fresh off the Boat 摘要 本文章以美剧《初来乍到》为研究对象。200多年以前，中国人就开始不断向美国大陆移民，历史上所称为的移民潮也层出不穷。此部美剧讲述的是一个来自中国台湾的家庭从美国华盛顿哥伦比亚唐人街到佛罗里达州奥兰多定居，一家人不得不面临着融入白人群体和坚持中国传统文化的矛盾。《初来乍到》表达了两种文化相互冲突、融合的过程。它展示了第二代移民儿童如何在父母教给他们的传统中国文化以及他们成长过程中所培养出的西方思维方式中作斗争。一方面，他们很难融入美国社会的主流文化；另一方面，他们很难真正理解中国本土传统价值观的真正含义，成为了夹在两种文化之间的“人”。然而，全球一体化是当今生活的主题，第二代移民在经历了文化认同的困惑之后，往往会重新审视自己的本土文化，对中国传统文化有一个新的认识，从中汲取强大的力量，实现文化交流与融合，在文化困境中寻找新的出路。我们只要更好的去了解和解决在跨文化交际中的问题，才能避免中西方交流过程中的障碍。本研究最后以论文的形式提出。通过观看美国电视连续剧《初来乍到》，记录下了文化冲击的各种场景。运用文化冲击理论进行分析和阐述，得出文化冲击的原因和表现形式，最终提出减缓文化冲击所带给中国移民影响的策略。

Abstract
This thesis is intended for the study of cultural shock in the American drama fresh off the boat .Chinese began to immigrate to the U.S.mainland more than 200 years ago,and there have been many so-called waves of immigration in history. The Fresh off the boat tells the story of a family from Taiwan who settles in Orlando, Florida, from Columbia Chinatown in Washington, D.C., and the family has to face the fact that they have to integrate into the white community when adhering to traditional Chinese culture.The whole story expresses the process of cultural conflict and integration between the two different cultures. It shows how the second generation of Chinese children struggle with the traditional Chineseculture taught by their parents and the western way of thinking nurtured by their upbringing. On the one hand, it is difficult for them to integrate into the mainstreamculture of the American society; On the other hand,it is also challenging for them to truly understandthe true meaning of the traditional values of their native land and eventually become "people" between the two cultures. However,there is a growing trend toward global integration,second-generation immigrants who have experienced the confusion of cultural identity,tend to re-examine their own culture, have a new understanding of traditional Chinese culture, draw strength from it, find a way out in the cultural dilemma and finally realize cultural exchange and integration . Only by better understanding and addressing the problems in cross-cultural communicationcan we overcome difficulties in the process of communication between China and the West.This research is finally presented in the form of a paper.By watching the U.S.TV series Fresh off the Boat, the performances of culture shock are recorded.The theory of culture shock is used for analysis and elaboration,so as to obtain the reasons and manifestations of culture conflicts, and finally form the strategies to mitigate the effect of culture shock between two cultures.
