| A Study on the Names and Appellations in the English Translation of Taipe 摘要 翻译不仅是语言工具的转换，更是文化信息的传递。把原文中蕴含在语言中丰富的文化内容转达进译语符号，从而融入译语文化中，是译者的任务。文学作品中作者通过语言展现着丰富广泛的社会文化。这些蕴含文化内涵的语言也包括中文名字。因此如何翻译这些中文名字与称谓的翻译是译者的一大难题。本文以《台北人》这部著名短篇小说集中的人名与称谓的译文为研究对象，对译者在处理这些名字的翻译方法进行详细分析。通过分析，作者认为译者非常巧妙运用创造相近文化意象的方法翻译原著中重要人物的中文名字，从而传神地表达出人物形象及人物性格，为读者更好地理解原著发挥了重要作用。本文主要有三个部分，第一个部分对相关研究进行综述，第二个部分分析人名和称谓翻译的原则和策略，第三个部分以《台北人》为例，分析其中人名与称谓翻译运用的技巧和策略。 关键词：《台北人》；人名翻译；直译；意译 Abstract Translation is not only the conversion of language tools, but also the transmission of cultural information. It is the task of the translator to convey the rich cultural content contained in the original text to the target language symbols and integrate them into the target language culture. In literary works, the author expresses a rich and extensive social culture through language.These languages with cultural connotations also include Chinese names.Therefore, how to translate these Chinese names and titles is a big problem for translators.This thesis takes the translations of names and titles in the famous collection of short stories in Taipei People as the research object,and analyzes in detail the translation methods used by the translators to deal with these names. Through analysis, the author believes that the translator has skillfully used the method of creating similar cultural images to translate the Chinese names of important characters in the original work, so as to express the image and character of the charactersvividly, and play an important role for readers to better understand the original work. This thesis has three main parts.The first part summarizes related research,the second part analyzes the principles andstrategies of name and appellation translation, and the third part takes Taipei People as an example to analyze the use of name and appellation translation.
