| An Analysis of Film Subtitle Translation from the Perspective of Skopos Theory - A Case study of Beauty and the Beast Abstract: The main function of the translation of foreign film subtitles is to convey the content of the dialogue of the characters in the film. The dialogue of a foreign film is the soul of the whole film. It is the elaborate design of the screenwriter and the work of originality. It is the artistic crystallization in line with the characteristics of performance. It plays an important role in the development of story plot and the shaping of character image. At the same time, the ultimate purpose of subtitle translation is to make the audience accept and feel the charm of the movie. Therefore, subtitle translation is not only a process of cultural transmission and transplantation between two languages, but also a purposeful translation that makes the audience the recipient. In this paper, the subtitles of the film Beauty and the Beast are selected for analysis. The film was released in 2017, which has been a long time. It is a fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Film Company in the United States, the film based on the 1991 Disney animated film of the same name, tells the story of the girl Belle to save her father and become cursed by the prince of the beast to get along day and night, and finally with true love to defeat the magic of the story. In recent years, with the continuous improvement of people's knowledge level, people's appreciation level of a large number of imported films is also increasing day by day. With the introduction of a large number of foreign films, the market demand for subtitle translation of foreign language films continues to grow.
