On English Translation of Online Profiles – Based on the Analysis of Ten Website

Abstract

Under the background of economic globalization, contacts and associations between countries in the world are becoming more and more frequent. More and more Chinese enterprises have started to seek overseas markets and opened up their international business in order to adapt to the development needs, which requires a good work of advertising the companies’ images and products, for example, profiles of companies. Guided by the Skopos Theory, this thesis analyzes online companies’ profiles on Chinese websites and their English version or websites of foreign branch. Those companies are chosen from 2017 Fortune Global 500. This thesis discusses five translation methods---addition, omission, conversion,division and adaptation to prove the applicability of the Skopos Theory in explaining the English translation of Chinese online companies’ profiles.
