| Differences between Chinese and western ideas of time in inter-cultural communication Abstract As we all known,culture is all-embracing and has its own advantages.Cultural differences have also become a hindrance to globalization. Culture can be divided into linguistic elements and non-linguistic elements.Non-linguistic elements and linguistic elements are equally of importance and cannot be replaced in other forms.When we communicate with westerners,it is hard to avoid cultural difference and the non-linguistic element is especially of importance. The use of non-languange and language is more conducive to the communication between China and the west.Time is one of the most important non-linguistic elements in culture, it is of great importance in our daily life.Time can convey information and also can help people communicate with each other.Understanding the role of time and how to use it can also help us learn culture better.Different cultural backgrounds,human civilization and modes of thinking may lead to different Chinese and western ideas of time.At the same time,Because of a large difference between Chinese and western ideas of time, it has lead to people's differences in behaviour, which brought inconvenience to inter-cultural communication.Therefore,how to solve the problem of the difference between Chinese and western ideas of time is worth thinking about. Understanding the differences between Chinese and western ideas of time contributes to the effective inter-cultural communication. In this article, through the analysis of Chinese and western ideas of time in all directions,the author carried on the comparison to Chinese and western ideas of time, analyzed the cause of the differences between Chinese and western ideas of time,and put forward an effective solution to the differences between Chinese and western ideas of time.By following this,it may avoid culture conflict and estrangemet in order to increase the effectiveness of inter-cultural communication.People should also consider the differences between Chinese and western ideas of time,overcome cultural differences,avoid the difficulties brought by communication, and promote cultural exchanges better.
