Analysis of Pear as a symbol in The Scarlet Letter

Abstract


  Nathaniel Hawthorne had the excellent writing ability in using the symbol to describe the main characters. The author takes The scarlet letter which is full of using symbols as an example. Because in this work, all most every character has its own symbols, especially Pearl. She not only plays part in the structure of the whole story but also promotes the development of the plot. It is the masterpiece of the American writer. Since it was published, this book has aroused great attention all over the world. This paper mainly analyses the symbolic meanings of Pearl. Through the analysis of this book, we can explore the meaning of Pearl deeply. What’s more, the attitudes of the author towards the essence of the problems in life and human beings can be revealed profoundly.

摘要
 
霍桑具有运用象征体来描写人物的能力,他是象征大师。 以《红字》为例,这是一部充满象征体的作品。在这部作品中,几乎人人都有着象征意义。尤其是珠儿,珠儿在《红字》中扮演着重要的角色,不仅在整个故事结构中起到了一定的作用,而且促进了情节的发展。这是美国作家纳撒尼尔·霍桑的杰作。自从出版以来,这本书引起了全世界的高度关注。通过对这本书的分析,我们可以更加深刻的探索珠儿的存在意义。同时,作者在生活和人性问题本质的剖析也可以被挖掘出来。
