| Analysis of Pear as a symbol in The Scarlet Letter Abstract Nathaniel Hawthorne had the excellent writing ability in using the symbol to describe the main characters. The author takes The scarlet letter which is full of using symbols as an example. Because in this work, all most every character has its own symbols, especially Pearl. She not only plays part in the structure of the whole story but also promotes the development of the plot. It is the masterpiece of the American writer. Since it was published, this book has aroused great attention all over the world. This paper mainly analyses the symbolic meanings of Pearl. Through the analysis of this book, we can explore the meaning of Pearl deeply. What’s more, the attitudes of the author towards the essence of the problems in life and human beings can be revealed profoundly.
