The Handling of Verbs in Chinese-English Interpretation from the Perspective of the Interpretive Theory Abstract This essay is trying to address the difficulties in Chinese verb interpreting.When doing Chinese-English interpreting,we often encounter some difficulties, such as the handling of verbs, prepositions, adjectives and so on. But the handling of verbs is more important for Chinese-English interpretation,because Chinese likes to use verbs or verb phrases to build sentences, but English prefers to use nouns in sentences. As we can see, verbs play an important role in Chinese, while nouns play more significant role in English. However, verbs are usually the predicate of sentences in English,so how to choose appropriate verbs in Chinese-English interpreting and accurately express the original meaning of Chinese is particularly important. This essay will written under the guidance of interpretive theory, which proposed by Marianne Lederer. According to it, literal translation (word-for-word translation) is not advisable, the interpreter should interpret the original text based on the comprehension of text, in other word,it means interpreter have to get out of the language shell and translate the text with the help of cognitive knowledge. The author seeks to address three difficulties in Chinese-English interpreting. |
