| The Translation of China’s “Long” and Its Cross Cultural Interpretation 中文摘要 关于中国“龙”的英译问题近几年再度受到关注，译界产生许多不同的译法。龙与“dragon”的长期误译，对中华文化的传播和中国的国际形象已经产生了严重的负面影响。而“龙”的英译问题不是单纯的语言层面，其中包含着国家文化实力与权力博弈的问题。“龙”的英译问题值得我们的关注。龙作为中国文化的标志性符号，事关中华民族的文化形象和中国的国家形象，纠正翻译错误，改变由此带来的国际的误读，有利于中华文化的全球传播、有利于提升国家形象。本文简述了“龙”的英译之史，并从多方面简释中国“龙”与“dragon”的区别，介绍当今“龙”的三种译法。从跨文化角度看，“龙”的重译促进了对外翻译改革，具有重要的文化和现实意义。 关键词：dragon；龙；跨文化 Abstract In recent years, the translation of Chinese “Long” has attracted more and more attention.There are many types of translation of Chinese “Long”.The long-term meddulation of dragon and "dragon" has had a serious negative impact on the spread of Chinese culture and China's international image. But the translation of “Long” is not a matter of language,but a simple of national cultural strength and power game. The English translation of “Long” needs our attention.As an iconic symbol of Chinese culture,“Long” is related to the cultural imageof the Chinese nation and China’s national image, correcting translation errors and changing the resulting international misreading, which is conducive to the global spread of Chinese culture and the promotion of national image. This paper gives a brief account of the history of the English translation of Chinese “Long” explains the differences between “Long” and “Dragon” in various aspects, and introduces three ways of translating “Long”. From a cross-cultural perspective,the retranslation of “Long” has promoted the reform of foreign translation, which is of great cultural and practical significance.
