The Application of Game Teaching in English Class in Rural Primary School
——A
Case Study of  Primary School

ABSTRACT

With the development of social informatization and economic globalization, English has become an indispensable language. Since 2001, primary school English curriculum has gradually expanded from urban primary school to rural primary school, and English education in rural primary schools has lasted more than 10 years. However, the rural primary school English teaching methods are relatively backward, and rural primary school students' English learning enthusiasm is not high and their English competence is poor. Therefore, exploring an English teaching method in rural primary schools and improving the level of English of students in rural primary school is highly necessary. Game teaching method is a method that teachers provide students with appropriate learning situations according to the teaching requirements and the characteristics of students' physical and mental development, and students learn knowledge by games. The game teaching method integrates the game into the teaching process to enhance the students' interest and enthusiasm in English and improve the quality of classroom teaching.
The research explores the effectiveness of applying game teaching in  rural English class. It probes into 3 questions:
(1)Can game teaching improve students’ English competence?
(2)Can game teaching better stimulate students’ learning enthusiasm and increase their interest in English?
(3)Is game teaching more effective than the traditional teaching method?
The research is conducted in terms of questionnaire and teaching experiment to verify the efficiency of game teaching instruction. The teaching experiment is carried out in two parallel classes from Primary School with a period of one semester. Game teaching is used in the experimental class while the control class still employs the traditional teaching model. After analyzing the results of the pre-test, the post-test and the questionnaire before and after the experiment, the author finds that: (1)Game teaching can improve students’ English competence. (2)Game teaching can better stimulate students’ learning enthusiasm and increase their interest in English. (3)Game teaching is more effective than the traditional teaching method.
The thesis has provided the research example for the rural primary school game teaching, which has the very important significance. It is meaningful and profound for English teaching in Primay School as well, but there are still some challenges of using the game teaching method in rural primary school ane exists some imperfection in the study, such as the experiment only implemented in two classes in one school and the time of experiment was allocated only one semester, which are limited for the study so that suggestions for further study is put forward.
