The translation of English idioms from the Perspective of Culture
从文化角度看英语习语翻译


Abstract: Idioms are fixed phrases or short sentences that are refined after a long period of using. The “Comprehensive Dictionary" says idioms includes proverbs, maxims, slangs, and allegorical sayings. " Idioms are subtle and humorous, or serious and elegant, not only concise but also lively and interesting. Most of them have a vivid image, suitable for metaphor things, so often with strong national color and local characteristics. If language is the mirror of culture, then as the core of language and the essence of the idiom is the crystallization of culture. Its application in language is everywhere, and proper use of idioms in writing or speech will add luster to the text. Gorky once said: "Idiom model to describe the working people all life experience and social and historical experience ... It includes the thought and emotion that can be written throughout a book. ” In the reflection of cultural differences, idioms are more typical and representative than other language components. Therefore, when translating idioms with strong cultural characteristics, the key to the success of translation is whether they can handle cultural differences. The essence of idiom translation is cultural translation.
