从词汇特征的角度研究英语商务合同的翻译原则与策略


Abstract

Since the carrying out of the reform and opening up policy, especially after the outbreak of the global financial crisis, China's economic development is faster and faster. Recently, with the flourishing of trade activities at home and abroad, China has been playing a leading role in the development of Global trade. Therefore, the effect of English business contracts in international trade is also increasingly significant.
English business contract has the characteristics of business English, and also the features of legal English. The main purpose of signing an English business contract is to protect the interests of buyers and sellers. The authenticity and validity of business contracts originate from its formal language, exact wording and standard clauses. First of all, English business contracts are consist of professional terms, including legal terms, archaisms and foreign words, complex prepositional phrases. Secondly, modal verbs in business contract English can improve their persuasiveness and avoid ambiguity by using clear terms. Finally, English business contracts use abbreviations, so the terms are simple and clear.
Basing on the above three lexical features, this thesis expounds the uniqueness of professional terms, archaic words, loanwords, modal verbs and abbreviations in English business contracts. The further analysis of translation principles and strategies in business contracts is also based on the study of lexical features. Thus, the principles and strategies put forward in this paper has a closely relationship to the lexical features of English business contracts.
