A Study on some Linguistic Features of Business English

Abstract

Along with the deepening of economic globalization, the trend of international commercial exchanges has become more frequent. English has been applied in various fields of business activities, such as international trade, transportation, financing, marketing and business negotiation, etc., which are called Business English. English has become an essential language communication method in the world economy. As a language tool, Business English is helpful to share international resource.
First of all, this article elaborates on the definition of business English, and introduces its development history in China. Second, the thesis analyzes the characteristics of business English vocabulary, sentences, and texts, and compares the discrepancies between business English and general English. In addition, from the perspective of pragmatics, the role of cooperation principles and politeness principles in the use of business English is emphasized. Finally, suggestions are given on how to master the language features of Business English. On the one hand, this article aims to promote Business English learners to master knowledge and solidify their foundation of business English. On the other hand, it can increase the ability of business English users to engage in business affairs, have the ability to use business English, and help them to use language tools to deal with business at home and abroad, freely and properly. At the same time, it is also conducive to cultivating a great amount of elites who are proficient in business English in order to satisfy the needs of competitive business professionals.
