| 跨文化因素对英文电影字幕翻译的影响—以功夫熊猫为例【英语论文】 Abstract In the context of globalization, movies as a new mean of mass media have been able to spread across regions. With the improvement of living standards, people's pursuit of cultural life is also continuously improving, and enjoying authentic foreign film works has become the choice of most of the audience. The translation of film subtitles has become a very important part. The translation theory based on culture proposed by Susan Bassnett in her book Translation Studies deems that the basic unit of translation is not a simple word, phrase or sentence, but culture. What translators should do is a cultural shift, not a mere transform of content. Based on this theory, cross-cultural factors in film subtitle translation should be given more attention. Due to the conciseness, instantaneity, artistry and popularity of film subtitles, the translation work has special requirements for translators. Translators should always pay attention to cultural exchanges and commonalities. The words should be as colloquial and concise as possible. Translations should use language symbols with similar meanings in both cultural contexts, and should be abbreviated and deleted in a timely manner so that the audience can quickly receive accurate and effective information in a few seconds. The Kung Fu Panda series produced by the American animation company DreamWorks is a successful case of cross-cultural communication. Its production process is a transformation from high context to low context and the subtitle translation process is a high context understanding of the low context, the Chinese element film, taken from the American perspective, has achieved excellent box office results in China. Through the specific analysis of this case, further elaborate the impact of cross-cultural factors on movie subtitle translation and translation strategies.
