Abstract

More and more foreigners learn Chinese and understand the culture of China, which has become a trend in today's society. Diet is a part of culture. It is closely related to everyone's life, and it is the classic culture of every nation. This paper introduces the history of Chinese and Western diet custom, and mainly from the five parts: the dietary concept, dietary way, dietary content, cooking methods and eating manners. These analyses show the differences between Chinese and Western food culture. This paper also illustrates the reasons of the Chinese and Western diet culture differences from the following three aspects: geographical environments, national personalities and religious beliefs. Finally it introduces the China diet in the West and the Western diet in China exchange and integration. It hopes that this paper will enable more Chinese and Westerners to understand the specific contents of the differences between Chinese and Western food cultures, and promote further exchanges, complementarities and integration between Chinese and Western cultures.
