The View of Destiny Reflected in the Ancient Greek Tragedy Antigone 古希腊悲剧《安提戈涅》中所体现出的命运观 Abstract: The view of destiny is a topic that people must deal with when they discuss the tragic works of ancient Greeks. In the dramas of that time,there were the struggle andresistance of the ancient Greeks against fate; there were also the disobey of arrangement by others but being teased by fate and finally succumbing to it. Antigone, a famous tragic work by Sophocles, tells a mythological tragedy story.From the hero's resistance to power, burying her brother,confrontation with the city master, hanging herself,and finally the city master's helpless surrender to fate, the work explains the ancient Greeks' views on fate to the later generations. The article also presents the fierce ethical conflicts between the city-state laws and customs, rituals and sacred laws. Facing the rule of fate,they believe that only through the struggle of human will can individual value be revealed. This paper will talk about the view of fate of ancient Greeks reflected in Antigone, understand the logic of action of Greeks under the control of the view of fate at that time, analyze the geographical, economic,political and other factors leading to the view, and the important influence of this work on modern literature. key word: Antigone view of destiny individualism ancient Greek tragedy |
