| 西奥多德莱塞《嘉莉妹妹》女主人公形象分析【英文】 摘要 西奥多·德莱塞是美国十九世纪末二十世纪初的现实主义作家，《嘉莉妹妹》是他创作的长篇小说，也是他的处女作，是美国文学史上一部具有划时代意义的优秀作品。在小说《嘉莉妹妹》里，德莱塞给我们描绘出当时美国的残酷的现实。通过对嘉莉的生动描绘，嘉莉这一女性形象在世界文学中取得了伟大成就，影响深远。《嘉莉妹妹》描写了一个农村姑娘来到大城市，怀揣梦想，从一开始的孤独无依，一步一步向前走，最终成为舞台上的闪耀之星。嘉莉是德莱塞依据当时社会所创造的一类人的代表，这类人走出家庭，卸下自己身上的不公平的枷锁，勇敢追求梦想，实现精神与经济双重独立，而嘉莉在经历了现实的打击——低微的工资以及难以忍受的工作之后，走投无路，她为了留在大城市，也为过上自己理想的生活而陷入与杜洛埃和赫斯沃的不正常男女关系中，嘉莉妹妹虽然现实，堕落，但是不可否认的是，她是有梦想，有追求的，所以她的形象并非堕落这么简单。本文试图依据当时特殊的时代背景以及作者的经历，分析女主人公嘉莉的形象，并且体会小说带给我们的深刻的社会意义。 本文首先介绍作者西奥多·德莱塞与其作品《嘉莉妹妹》以及相关评论。 接着依据作品情节分析嘉莉的优点：天真单纯，勤奋有进取心，热情富于想象以及独立；接着分析嘉莉性格上的缺点：虚荣现实以及在道德观念方面的迷茫与匮乏。 最后从内外两个方面分析嘉莉妹妹形象形成背后的原因。 关键词：《嘉莉妹妹》 追求 实现自我 欲望 ABSTRACT Theodore Dreiser is an American realist writer at the end of thenineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century . " Sister Carrie " is his novel and his debut .It is an outstanding work of epoch-making significance of the history of American literature .In the novel " Sister Carrie " , Dreiser portrays us the cruel reality of America at that time .Through the vivid depiction of Carrie ,this female image of Carrie has made great achievements in world literature and has a profound influence . " Sister Carrie " depicts a rural girl that came to a big city with a dream ,lonely and helpless from the beginning , step by step , and finally became a shin star in the stage . Carrie is the representative of a class of people created by Dreiser based on the society at the time . This class of people walked out of the family ,removed the shackles of unfairness from themselves , pursued their dreams bravely , and achieved spiritual and economic independence . Carrie was experiencing The blow to reality-after alow salary and an unbearable job , she was desperate . In order to stay in the big city and lead her ideal life ,she fell into the abnormal relationship of between Drouet and Hesworth .Although Sister Li is realistic and depraved ,it is undeniable that she has dreams and pursuits , so her image is not as simple as depravity . This article attempts to analyze the image of the heroine Carrie basedon the special background of the time and the author's experience ,and to appreciate the profound social significance the novel brings to us . This article first introduces the author Theodore Dreiser and his work " Sister Carrie " and related comments . Then analyzing Carrie's advantages based on the plot of the work : innocence and simplicity ,hardworking and enterprising , enthusiastic , imaginative , and independent ;then analyzing Carrie character 's shortcomings : vanity and reality and confusion and lack of moral concepts .
