The Research of the Translation Techniques of the Cosmetic Instructions

Abstract

With the gradual improvement of people's consumption level, everyone has love for beauty, especially women. They are more concerned about their make-up and beauty sense, and the shaping of their beautiful image, so the cosmetic market can be widened in China. Cosmetics instructions belong to the science and technology instruction style and play an essential role in sales promotion. Therefore, the translation of cosmetic instructions has strong commercial value to attract consumers.
This paper is mainly based on the skopos theory as the research basis. First, it introduced the deep significance and background of the cosmetic instruction translation, only good translation can expand the market and stimulate the consumers’ shopping desire; through the analysis of cosmetic instruction ingredients, functions and linguistic features, including syntactic features and lexical features. By using the syntactic features in the imperative sentence and ellipsis sentence , it leads to the application of Skopos Theory in the translation of cosmetic instructions; the application of Skopos Theory is mainly embodied in the aesthetic function, simplification and negation translation; in addition, it discusses the differences between Chinese and English cosmetics instruction translation from two aspects of language and culture. Through the analysis of the above four parts, this paper tries to show the importance of the translation of cosmetic instructions and the improvement of the present cosmetic instructions translation.
