| Analysis of the Differences in the Expression of Euphemism between Chinese and English in Cross-cult 中文摘要 委婉语是人们在日常交流和交际中希望找到的一种表达方式，是用比较含蓄， 委婉的语言表达强烈，甚至有时是难以启齿的话语。这既是一种语言文化， 也是一种社会文化，存在于我们生活的方方面面，可以反映不同文化背景下， 不同民族的价值观与文化特点与内涵。准确， 恰当的使用委婉语可以促进双方交流顺利进行，从而达到交际的目的， 推动文化的传播与跨文化交际的进一步发展，而错误的使用委婉语就会造成交际障碍， 不利于我们培养跨文化交际能力。 本文首先阐述了委婉语的定义以及国内外学者对于委婉语不同的认知， 接着研究分析了委婉语在交际中的作用，委婉语作为人际交往中的润滑剂， 很好地调节了人们交际中出现的摩擦与障碍，营造了更加和谐的交际氛围。接着， 笔者用具体例子对比分析了在不同的文化背景下， 中英委婉语表达所反映出的不同的文化内涵和差异性产生的原因， 这有利于加深我们对中西方语言与文化的认识，最后提出了准确运用汉英委婉语的技巧， 希望可以帮助我们透过语言和文化现象，了解更深层次的文化内涵， 从而提高我们的跨文化交际能力。 关键词：委婉语，跨文化，表达差异 Abstract Euphemism is a good way of expression that people hope to find in daily communication. It uses relatively implicit, euphemistic language to express strong, and sometimes unspeakable words. This is not only a kind of language, but also a kind of social culture. It exists in all aspects of our lives and can reflect the values and cultural characteristics and connotations of different nationalities under diffe Accurate and appropriate use of euphemisms can promote the smooth progress of communication between the two parties, so as to achieve the purpose of communication, promote the spread of culture and the further development of cross-cultural communication, while the wrong use of euphemisms will cause communication barriers, which is not conducive to our cultivation of cross-cultural communication. This article first expounds the definition of euphemism and the different cognition of euphemism by domestic and foreign scholars, and then studies and analyzes the function of euphemism in communication. As a “lubricant” in interpersonal communication, euphemism can well regulate people's friction and obstacles and create a more harmonious atmosphere. Next, the author uses specific examples to compare and analyze the different cultural connotations and the reasons for the differences reflected in the exp which will help us deepen our understanding of Chinese and Western languages and cultures. Finally, the skills of accurately using Chinese-English euphemisms are proposed, hoping to help us understand deeper cultural connotations through language and cultural phenomena, thereby improving our cross-cultural communication competence.
