| 功能翻译理论视角下的电影字幕翻译研究——以电影《战狼2》为例 Abstract Film is an important carrier of culture. As Chinese economy grows and China’s status in the international community improves, a large number of excellent films come out, pushing Chinese films to the international stage. Thus, films have become an important platform for other countries to know about and communicate with China. Film subtitle translation is a totally new type of translation, however, it plays a significant role in the spreading of culture. Film subtitle is different from other forms of literature, as it has its own limits, being informal and intercultural. Currently, researches in this specific field in our country is still insufficient, the industry is not mature and lacks of professionals, which is a barrier for Chinese films performing in the world. Theories in subtitle translation are still to be perfected and the quality of translation work is to be improved. From a functionalist translation perspective, the thesis intends to analyze, with the Chinese film Wolf Warrior II as case study, how to deal with C-E subtitle translation. This movie is a military and action movie, filming at the 90th anniversary of Chinese PLA, and showing the patriotism and PLA heroism. The theme will help foreign audience to know more about China. The thesis also discusses the strategies and methods of subtitle translation, and analyses some parts of the official translation. The thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, introducing the research background, research significance, research methods and the structure of this thesis. The second chapter is the literature review, introducing the study of film and television subtitle translation by Chinese and Western scholars. The third chapter is the theoretical framework, introducing Functionalist Translation Theory. The fourth chapter studies the film subtitle translation of films and introduces some related content. The fifth chapter is a case study. It applies the Functionalist Translation Theory to the subtitle translation of the movie War Wolf II to analyze individual cases and propose relevant translation strategies and methods. The sixth chapter concludes the thesis.
