The Comparative Study on Literary Styles and Thinking Between Shelley and Byron in View of Avant-garde — A Case Study of To a Skylark and Don Juan Abstract Shelley and Byron were representatives of British Romantic poets in the early 19th century. They have left countless immortal psalms for the world, who are close friends to each other. There are too many similarities between the two men from literature to life, but they can still be found in their literary works in a very different way. Shelley's most famous work is To a Skylark, while Byron's most talked about is Don Juan. Both works show the characteristics of romantic poetry with unique artistic techniques, but from the perspective of literary avant-garde, the literary ideas and styles expressed in the two works are much the same and different. Avant-garde is one of the important cultural phenomena active in Western Europe, and Shelley and Byron are well known in the field of literary pioneers. From the perspective of avant-garde, this paper compares the similarities and differences between Shelley and Byron's literary thinking and styles by analyzing the verse of To a Skylark and Don Juan.
