Discussion on the Causes and Strategies of Middle School Students' Chinglish Writing

Abstract: It is universally acknowledged that writing is a crucial part in language learning. Writing contributes both to consolidating the language knowledge and the way of communication. Meanwhile, writing, in English teaching, is a comprehensive reflection of “listening, speaking, reading”, which can show students’ ability to use English completely. In middle school English teaching, students' writing ability plays a crucial role in promoting their English. However, in the learning process,  middle school students are lacking in understanding and accumulating the features of English language, overlooking the cultural differences between English and Chinese languages, moreover, they are also confined to the native language thinking model, which leads to many deviations and errors in grammar, lexical, syntactic, and textual expressions of English writing. As a result, their writing are always presented in a palpable way with Chinese characters, which are called “Chinglish”. To solve this problem, this paper will aim to analyze and explore the Chinglish writing problems of middle school students, and try to put forward some useful solutions.
