A Comparative Study of Two Chinese Versions of Animal Farm from the Perspective

目的论视角下《动物农场》 两个中译本的比较研究

Abstract: skopostheorie was introduced into china in 1970s at first, and it aroused great attention and discussion among scholars. Skopostheorie mainly contains three important rules: skopos rule, fidelity rule and coherence rule. In addition, skopostheorie provides a new vision for scholars to translate literature. Animal Farm is a classical novel written by George Orwell, which talks about revolutions among animals and reveals the truth of power-----power is supreme.
The writer chooses two Chinese versions of animal farm, interpreted by Fu Weici and Rong Rude respectively. By comparing the two versions of Animal Farm, the writer manages to verify the applicability of skopostheorie on literary translations. According to the three important rules, the writer analyzes the two versions from different aspects, including cultural background and semantic meaning in terms of fidelity rule, translators’ aim and reader’s expectations in terms of skopos rule. In a word, the thesis aims to reveal the influence of skopostheorie for scholars on literary works.

Key words: skopostheorie; Animal farm; skopos rule;fidelity rule;coherence rule
