A Study of Sethe’s Searching for Self-Identity in Beloved from the Perspective of Ecofeminism [Abstract] Tony Morrison won the Pulitzer Prize and the American Book Award in 1988 for Beloved. This book describes the life of slave Sethe escaping from slave owner’s farm and searching for self-identity. This paper applies ecofeminist theory to this novel in order to study Sethe’s searching for self-identity. It mainly analyzes the process of Sethe’s awakening of consciousness from perspectives of her self-identity, wifehood and motherhood. It tries to conclude that black women are able to obtain power from nature, prove intrinsic values of women and nature and enjoy the equal right to live.
