Most of his works are based on the real life in the rural areas of North China,revealing the basic contradiction between social development and people's life at that time. His language is easy to understand and makes outstanding contributions to the nationalization of literature. The "yam egg school" founded by him also became one of the most influential schools at that time.He took root in the soil of Southeast Shanxi and showed us the simplicity of rural life with his own personal experience. The works deeply reflect the changes of life in the southeast of Shanxi Province from 1930s to 1960s. They are expressed in the form that people like to see and express,reflecting the strong local customs and national characteristics.
